Robert A. Frist, Jr., co-founder, has served as chief executive officer, president, and chairman of the board of directors since 1990. He is a board member at Nashville's Adventure Science Center, the Minnie Pearl Cancer Foundation, and co-founder and board member of Nashville's Entrepreneur Center. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science in business from Trinity University. Jeffrey Doster Senior Vice President & Chief Technology Officer
Jeffrey Doster joined us as senior vice president and chief technology officer (CTO) in mid-May 2008. Mr. Doster has held several senior information technology (IT) positions, including senior vice president and chief technology officer at The Shop at Home Network, LLC and senior vice president of IT at New Roads, Inc. With more than 25 years of experience in IT across several companies, he has demonstrated outstanding executive leadership in developing enterprise-level application systems, highly effective business intelligence systems, and innovative Internet commerce platforms. At HealthStream, Mr. Doster is responsible for leading all aspects of the Company's technology development, including our strategy for technology platforms, product development, and partnerships. Mr. Doster earned undergraduate degrees in both Economics and Business Administration from Towson University, as well as a Masters of Business Administration from Loyola College in Baltimore, Maryland.
Gerard M. Hayden Senior Vice President & Chief Financial Officer
Gerard ("Gerry") M. Hayden, Jr. joined us as senior vice president and chief financial officer (CFO) in mid-May 2008 after resigning from HealthStream's Board of Directors, where he had been a Member since 2006. Having led healthcare technology companies, he brings broad industry experience in finance, mergers and acquisitions, and accounting to HealthStream's executive team. Most recently serving as chief financial officer for MedAvant Healthcare Solutions, Mr. Hayden has additional experience serving as chief financial officer for such companies as Private Business, Inc., Covation, Meridian Occupational Healthcare Associates, Inc., ENVOY (now part of WebMD), and Allied Clinical Laboratories, Inc. In his current role at HealthStream, Mr. Hayden provides leadership for accounting and financial operations. Mr. Hayden holds a Bachelor of Arts in Government and International Studies from the University of Notre Dame and a Master of Science in Accounting from Northeastern University.
Arthur E. Newman Executive Vice President
Arthur E. Newman joined HealthStream in January 2000 and is currently the executive vice president. Mr. Newman is responsible for developing and maintaining strategic company partnerships and alliances. He previously served as executive vice president overseeing finance, human resources, information systems and customer service and fulfillment for Lippincott, Williams and Wilkins, formerly Waverly, Inc., a publicly traded medical sciences publisher. From August 1999 to January 2000, Mr. Newman served as the chief technology officer for Wolters Kluwer's scientific, technical and medical companies consisting of five separate units. Mr. Newman holds a Bachelor of Science in chemistry from the University of Miami and a Masters of Business Administration from Rutgers University.
J. Edward Pearson Senior Vice President & Chief Operating Officer
J. Edward Pearson has served as senior vice president since he joined HealthStream in June 2006, and was named chief operating officer in August 2011. Mr. Pearson is responsible for day-to-day operations throughout HealthStreamwith executive oversight of the Company's human resources, consulting, client services, research operations, product management, and marketing departments. Prior to his current position, he served as president and chief executive officer of DigiScript, Inc. Mr. Pearson's tenure in
e-healthcare also includes serving as CFO and executive vice president of Inforum, Inc., CFO of HIE, Inc., CEO of empactHealth.com, and CTO and, subsequently, CEO of Medibuy. Starting his career with a Bachelor's Degree of Business Administration from Middle Tennessee State University, Mr. Pearson first worked at William Puryear & Company, a public accounting firm, as a CPA.
Michael J. Sousa joined HealthStream in October 2004, and is currently serving as senior vice president. Mr. Sousa provides executive-level leadership for sales strategy and new business acquisition, including leading our strategic accounts program, client sales teams, and new business sales initiatives. He previously served as our vice president, strategic accounts and professional services, overseeing the design, launch, and growth of both initiatives. Prior to HealthStream, Mr. Sousa held several consulting positions over nine years including as Associate Partner for IBM Business Consulting Services' healthcare practice, Managing Consultant for PWC Consulting's e-learning practice, and Senior Consultant for Coopers & Lybrand's Higher Education practice. In addition, he served on the senior management team for DigitalMed, Inc., an e-learning start-up funded by Tenet Healthcare. Mr. Sousa earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Boston College's Caroll School of Management and a Masters in Business Administration (MBA) from Boston University's School of Management.
