HealthStream Partners With NC AHEC to Provide E-learning Solutions to North Carolina
"The introduction of HealthStream's e-learning solutions marks a progressive initiative to extend the latest educational resources to healthcare professionals who provide quality healthcare to patients in a large geographic area," explained Teck Penland, Ph.D., president and chief executive officer of the Mountain AHEC (MAHEC) in Asheville. All AHECs in North Carolina have enlisted with HealthStream to provide e-learning opportunities in their respective service areas.
North Carolina professionals will join thousands of others already utilizing HealthStream's Healthcare Learning Center. The North Carolina AHECs represent over 150 hospital and health centers. HealthStream's proprietary technology platform currently houses one of the largest online continuing education libraries for medical professionals, with over 2,000 hours currently online and approximately 4,000 hours under license.
"Our e-learning solutions are uniquely suited to effectively meet two of the most common needs of rural communities: immediate access to up-to-date medical knowledge about rural patients' health concerns -- that often differ from their urban counterparts -- and training geographically dispersed medical personnel," explained Michael Pote, senior vice president of HealthStream, who is leading HealthStream's hospital initiative.
Concurring, Dr. Penland, president and chief executive officer of MAHEC, concluded, "The partnership with HealthStream directly improves the delivery of first-tier education to our healthcare professionals and reflects our overall commitment to enhance the health of North Carolina communities."
About North Carolina Area Health Education Center
The North Carolina Area Health Education Centers (AHEC) Program provides health professions education and training. It is a unique partnership between the university health science centers and local communities. The program's goal is to meet the primary health care needs of the state by improving the supply, distribution and quality of health care professionals. The AHEC Program began in 1972 with federal funding and is administered by the UNC-CH School of Medicine. In 1974, with funding from the NC General Assembly, it became a statewide program. Today, nine regional AHECs comprise the AHEC system and are supported primarily by state and local funds. Visit the NC AHEC Program on the Web at www.ncahec.org.
